Can you believe that it is September already? Well, very little has changed since the last report although we are just starting to feel a little fall in the air. The water levels are still surprisingly good considering the extremely light winter last year. Things have been getting started around 7:30 A.M. with a #22-24 female Trico hatch. There have been good solid hatches most every day, depending on where on the stream you are. You will see the #22 Trico spinners start at around 8:30 or 9 and the fish have really been on them! The Caddis migration is still fabulous and is starting at around 8 and you will see them throughout the day, sizes #16-22. The PMD's (#'s 14-16) are still coming off, but the fish are so wary of them that you will often see a live adult go through feeding fish without being eaten. Look for the BWO's (#'s 18-22) anywhere from 9 on. I have been seeing good Beatis hatches well into the afternoon. The afternoons have seen decent hopper action, specially if it's windy and don't hesitate to try a Beatle or an Ant. The Caddis hatch has been great in the afternoon starting around 5 and really gets going just before dark, depending on the wind. Also look for the #22 male Tricos late in the evening, just before dark. The fish will change what they are feeding on as quickly as the hatch changes, so be ready to change your fly a lot. The fish are getting a lot wiser as we are getting into the later part of our season. Practice up on your "getting the fish out of the weeds" skills. We have all of the flies that you will need in our fly shop as well as fishing shirts, fly lines, leaders, nets, tippet and most anything else that you might need. The fishing is great and we can't wait to see you here at the ranch! Kevin and Lisa
