There was a lot going on at South Lake this week despite the wind being a deterrent earlier in the week. Thankfully the wind started to calmed down a bit for the weekenders. The big news at the lake was Alpers truck made a showing this week stocking 100 browns to 2lbs and a nice load of hefty trophy Rainbows in the lake. Tom Byrd of Bishop, CA and Thomas Byrd of Garden Grove managed to fill a stringer with nine BROWN TROUT from 1-1/2 to 2lbs!!! Not a bad morning of fishing. They caught these lunkers out of South Lake using Red & Gold Thomas Bouyants. The California DFG also showed up, finally. The planter rainbows are in what is typically the August pattern and are hanging in numbers deep. Trollers fishing 7-10 colors of lead core mid-lake are finding terrific success on Frog Pattern Needlefish, Red/Gold Thomas Bouyants and Gold Kastmasters. Fishing at the inlets has been erratic but bait dunkers are scoring on nightcrawlers or rainbow Powerbait. The other big news this week was that South Lake Boat Landing purchased three brand new Gregor aluminum boats to upgrade the rental fleet. These boats are sweet and a considerable upgrade to the old yellow boats in the fleet.
