In an unusual turn of the normal August pattern, large concentrations of fish were found in the back of the lake near the creek mouths and in other shallow locations. Trollers, who had been dominating the big and most fish categories for weeks, were out fished by bait dunkers in the shallows. Rainbow power bait, lip rippers in orange, power worms in pink, saw the best success. It was reported that a stowaway mouse on a rental pontoon scurried off the boat into the lake while the group was out fishing. To the shock of the fisherman a huge brown pulled a jaws imitation and ate the swimming rodent in one gulp. The creek fished well as the water levels are up as we begin the usual fall draw-down of South Lake. Salmon eggs and half night crawlers pulled limits and were the talk at the Parchers fish cleaning station. The Aspen are beginning to turn a bit early this year. All of the above indicate we are moving into a fall pattern already. It should also be noted that due to the drop in water level, private boats can no longer launch at South Lake and will not be able to launch for the remainder of the season.
