As Good As it Gets!!!!
After a few weeks of warmer than average weather we had a few rounds of summer monsoons which thankfully for our canyon brought some much-appreciated precipitation, but none of the flooding that we saw to our south. Most of the rain came in the afternoons after clear mornings but there were a few days of morning rain. The current forecast is sunshine through the weekend with highs in the mid 70’s and then as we move into next week, a slight chance of showers. Keep an eye on the weather link on the Parchers Resort or Lake Sabrina website to see if that actually develops. Some of the school districts are going back which means things are quieting down on the hill….so the peak season paradise we’ve been enjoying will be transitioning into the shoulder season paradise.
The hiking trails are wide open, the temps have cooled a bit making for much more pleasant hiking, but come prepared for afternoon rain. Also notable is that with the extra rain, we’ve seen a resurgence in some of the skeeters so plan accordingly. Bear activity on the south fork has been quiet but we’ve heard a lot of bear chatter from the campgrounds on the middle fork. Be bear aware!!!!
The fishing continues to be lights-out at Lake Sabrina after at least 5 rounds of DFW fish plants totaling an estimated 5,000lbs were dumped in the lake a few weeks back. As far as state fish go, this should be enough to keep the bite hot well into the fall and we still have two loads of Idaho fish and possibly some Oregon ‘bows coming too.
The moral of the story is, if you’re a fan of trout fishing, best get the lake because it’s as good a bite as there’s been in the canyon in several years. And September and October are looking promising as those trophy fish arrive. With the water down at South Lake we moved our SLK fleet and new pontoons over to Lake Sabrina along with the boats we bought for LSBL so we have 11 motorboats with 8hp or 15hp motors and 8 pontoon boats available for rent. Kayaks and a canoe too.
With the rain, the water level has charged up way farther and faster than we anticipated. We’re unsure as to how long they’ll keep the water up for us but right now the water is well up on the ramp and still rising. Things are shaping up crazy good for fall if we can stay open this September.
The Middle Fork Bishop Creek, So. Fork. Bishop Creek, Intake 2 and North Lake also got loaded up with fish so it’s been very good fishing all over the canyon.
The Hot Stuff : Brown or Grasshopper Sierra Slammer jigs, Thomas Buoyants, Crawlers, any fly when the fish get to rising.
The Hot Spots: Sabrina East Shore, Inlet. The dam area is also producing well.

With the increase in foot traffic already starting, it's a good time to remind everyone to PLEASE PAY ATTENTION to, and more importantly ADHERE TO, signage. There is day use parking, overnight parking, overflow parking, places where parking is prohibited for the safety of everyone, signs about where to put trash and where you can and can’t have a fire. It takes one moron ignoring the parking signs to start an avalanche of copycats making a summer weekend a parking nightmare for everyone. It takes one jerk with a match to end the entire season or a whole lot worse.
All USFS roads and campgrounds in the White Mountain Ranger District are currently open.
Cheers,
Jared, Seth, Austin, Kerry, Judy, and the rest of the Parchers Resort & Lake Sabrina Staff
