June Lake Loop - June Lake, CA

Lake Information
Fish Species: | Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Brook Trout, Lahontan Cutthroat |
The June Lake Loop, located along Highway 158 in Mono County, CA, is a collection of four alpine lakes—June, Gull, Silver, and Grant—each offering quality stillwater fly fishing in a spectacular Eastern Sierra setting. These lakes are stocked regularly and support populations of rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout.
June Lake provides the clearest water and most accessible shoreline fishing, with good early-season action near the inlet using woolly buggers, chironomids, and balanced leeches. Gull Lake, smaller and more protected, is ideal for float tubing and fishing midges or nymphs under indicators. Silver Lake is deeper and more rugged, known for its large brown trout and streamer-friendly drop-offs. Grant Lake (previously summarized) offers a larger waterbody with trophy brown potential, particularly in fall and spring.
Across the loop, fly fishing peaks in spring (post ice-out) and again in fall as temperatures drop and trout feed aggressively. While summer offers scenic conditions, recreational activity and warm water can limit fishing productivity. Early mornings and evenings are most productive during warmer months.
Each lake offers different structure and access, making the loop a flexible destination for anglers seeking both simplicity and challenge. Float tubes and small boats are recommended, though shoreline opportunities exist, especially on Gull and June Lakes.
With consistent trout action, varied lake profiles, and stunning mountain views, the June Lake Loop is a premier destination for anglers seeking a multifaceted stillwater experience in one of California’s most picturesque regions.
