The weather just continues to be great with breezy afternoons and some residue smoke from the Santa Barbara fires most of the week. Fishing has slowed to a snails pace with only the best anglers catching any fish, but then the breeze turned into wind and dropped the evening temperature to a comfortable trout range for feeding once again.
Mike Ardouin of Santa Barbara took a 7lb 2oz Alpers hawg on power bait, a combination of Salmon Peach and some other rainbowish flavor of the day. He plans to decorate his mantle with this one.
Other nice trout in the 1 pound-plus range hit the stringers to put smiles on some faces using baby night crawlers and inflated crawlers, grubs, meal worms (again) and the odd power worm.
Lures for the week were still the Panther Martins, and some Phoebe's also did a good number. Of course there are always the standards that will take some fish, but you better plan to bring a huge assortment of hardware for versatility.
The Virginia Lakes special red throated Matuka did well, as did some soft hackles, the Leisenring Spider #20 green body midges, and a few moth patterns. Damsels are hitting near the weeds, as well as the Rickard's Stillwater nymph.
Virginia Lakes Resort is located near the top of Conway Summit between Mono Lake and Bridgeport, CA. We have everything you need to enjoy the Eastern Sierra. Check out our WEBSITE.
