Fishing at Silver Lake does not get to much better than this past week. The weather has been beautiful, the water level is as high as ever and the fish are biting. Yum!

Troutkrilla has a no entry fish contest going on at Silver Lake and the tagged fish have been rolling in with 12 tagged 1 pounders being brought in and a large 3 pound tagged rainbow coming in this week, with the 3 pounder being caught on YUM bait by Michael Baca of Los Angeles. Power Baits have been the king of the hill this past week, with the YUM troutkrilla holding its own against Berkley's Salmon Peach and Garlic dough baits. Kaci Manthorne age 6 of Fountain Valley caught her first fish ever on Silver Lake using Rainbow Power Bait and Brenden Feeney caught a great 2 pound 3 oz rainbow from Rush Creek using Salmon Eggs.

The amount of water flowing into Silver Lake right now is staggering but the water temperature continues to slowly rise (last week 42 degrees and this week 52 degrees) is helping to improve fishing. Some hot spots to hit is where Rush Creek and Alger Creek dump into Silver Lake where the fish are eating the good bugs that are flowing out of the creeks.

The Mosquitoes are out in full force so bring your repellant and your size 14 or size 16 California Mosquito. Other Dry Flies you can try are a Black Ant or Grey Hackle Peacock. If you want to troll some flies try a Brown Ghost, a Olive Matuka or a Wooly Bugger.

Thanks to the over 45 volunteers who showed up this past Saturday to help Silver Lake Resort and The Federation of Fly Fishers Fifth Annual Rush Creek Clean Up and BBQ. It is through Volunteers like this that help to keep Silver Lake and Rush Creek as pristine as it is. We thank you.
