Fishing at Silver Lake is starting to pick up this past week. Since last Sunday we have seen at least twenty to twenty five nice size trout all weighing in over a pound and an abundance of nice stringers.
DFG stocked again on Tuesday with another 900 pounds of catchables and as the weather continues to improve, we hope the fishing follows it. Worms have been the best, steady bait again this week both in the lake and in Rush Creek. As the water temperature continues to get warmer (41 right now), PowerBait will continue to be a hot ticket also. We are also starting to see some signs of fisherman using some flies and streamers and beginning to catch some nice fish with an Olive Matuka or Green Wooly Bugger. Tazmainian Devils and Thomas Bouyants have also produced some nice looking trout as well.
Pat Gale (Photo 1) of June Lake had a great looking stringer with an overall stringer weighing in at 8 lb 4 oz with a nice 2 lb 12 oz and a 2 lb 15 oz caught using a Thomas Bouyant and PowerBait. Pat was at the Far South end of the lake in a boat, where Rush Creek dumps into the lake. Garrett Fletcher (Photo 2) of Bakersfield and is 10 Years old caught some great looking trout to complete his stringer. Scott Mosher (Photo 3) of Yorba Linda had a 2 lb 8oz rainbow from a boat using Salmon Peach PowerBait. Daniel Antonelli (Photo 4) age 13 of Brea caught a great looking stringer totaling 4 lb 13 oz using Power Bait. Tony Benson (Photo 5) of Temecula also caught a 1 lb 9 oz rainbow from Rush Creek using garlic PowerBait.
Don't forget that on June 25th Silver Lake Resort and The Federation of Fly Fishers will be holding our 4th annual Rush Creek Clean Up. Come out Saturday June 25th to the Silver Lake Boat Launch and help keep Rush Creek looking pristine. A BBQ lunch will be provided.
