Could it actually be that Summer is here? We woke to a dusting of that cold white stuff on Monday (and I was a bit worried) - we can only hope that will be it for at least a couple of months. It seems temps are a bit warmer - the Lake rose about 5 feet since Monday, so it looks like the run-off has started. WOOO-HOOO!
Fishing, this week remains good - hard to believe with as many fish as we have seen come out since the Opener. Trolling is slow (Rick and I were out last night - got a few bumps, but nothing on the hook!) Still fishing or fishing from shore is working the best and it's been working the best with baits. Fishing has been really excellent back at the DingleBerry Inlet and the rainbows are starting to spawn. Mitch Beltran of Chino landed a native beaut - a 3-3/4 pounder on a NightCrawler - way to go, Mitch - not many of those get that big. Chad Martin of Chalfant picked up a nice dinner for the family using the (tried and true) Red and Gold Thomas Buoyant and crickets and a bubble (pick up your crickets at either Culvers' Sporting Goods or Mac's Sporting Goods in Bishop.
The NorthLake road is now open although we haven't had a report from anyone on the actual conditions of said road - just take it easy. In fact, take it easy on all the mountain roads, the deer are on the move. Not sure about the campground up there yet, but all the other campgrounds are open and ready for your camping experience. The only campground to take reservations is Four Jeffery (www.reserveamerica.com and enter Four Jeffrey) all others are first come first serve. There is a full hook-up campground also on the South Lake road, Creekside RV Park.
Almost forgot to mention, the best bunch of kids and parents you'd ever want to meet will be in town this week for the "CaliforniaHighSchoolRodeoState Finals Championship". They've been coming to Bishop since 2005 and it's always a pleasure when they come to the Lake - most go fishing with their spurs on! So if you've caught your limit at the Lake and are looking for something to do - head on over to the Tri-County Fairgrounds. They'll be in action throughout the week during the day starting Tuesday to Friday with the finals scheduled as follows:
