Angler Report: Caples Lake

Caples Lake - Kirkwood, CA (Alpine County)

Nick checked in with us after his recent outing to Caples Lake:

It was slow going at first, but I took my time drilling holes and moving around until I found a spot that felt right. I eventually settled near the middle of the dam, in about 18 feet of water. I was fishing with a white jig tipped with a mealworm, keeping the rod mostly still and giving it the occasional jig every few minutes. After some time, I hooked and landed a 21" lake trout, which was the only action I had during my time on the lake. The ice was about 24 inches thick, with two layers and a thin layer of water between them in some spots. Hope this info helps!

Thanks for sharing Nick!
