The Truckee has seen consistent flows here on the California side, with Glenshire Bridge sitting at 150 CFS, and Farad around 450. We have seen a slight change in flows on the Nevada side in both Mogul and Sparks, where flows have come up around 40 CFS. While we are not certain, we suspect this change is coming from less water going into diversions for drinking water or power production and not from any change in flows from tributaries. Overall, the Truckee continues to fish well, but we are working hard to find some of the larger fish at the moment. That said, we are seeing some great numbers days that are just flat out rare on this river, with 20+ fish days a realistic possibility right now. With those kinds of numbers your bound to find one or two good fish in the mix. As temps continue to trend downward, the fish will be found in the slower water with greater predictability, and the best times to get out will be mid-day through afternoon. The egg bite is still very much happening and using a globug paired with a small baeits nymph or midge larvae will be a great way to find fish. Stoneflies are also working with regularity and will be a great alternative to the egg, if fishing “the round nymph” isn’t your thing. With the unsettled weather next week, worms will also be in play. The streamer bite has been a bit hit or miss, and mostly worth putting in the time on the lower river from Reno down. The streamer bite is best late in the evening, or on overcast and stormy days.
