We've been getting a weekly stocking and this week lakes were not stocked. The weather is driving the visitors to wet wade in Little Virginia up until yesterday. They sure don't like being told to get out of the water, NOBODY reads the bulletin board in the parking lot.
Another theft during the rainstorm, some lame brain idiot stole a float tube right from the boat dock area. Hope it leaks and you get wet using it, or maybe you are selling it, but you are SCUM of the earth. My camera also got a glimpse.
MONO COUNTY road work for this coming week.
- The Trees Shoulder Grading – On U.S. 395 from Mammoth Scenic Loop to the Crestview Safety Roadside Rest Area, the northbound outside lane and shoulder will close while crews continue grading the shoulders Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.
- Deadman Summit Utility Work – On U.S. 395 from just south of Obsidian Dome Road to just north, there will be intermittent traffic breaks to allow utility crews to replace infrastructure on Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.
- Sonora Junction Shoulders Project – On U.S. 395 between Burcham Flat Road and Sonora Junction, there will be one-way traffic control as work continues on the Sonora Junction Shoulders Project. Work is scheduled from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday through Friday, and 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Friday. Drivers may encounter 20-minute delays.
- Conway Ranch Shoulders Project – On U.S. 395 between State Route 167 and just north of Conway Ranch Road near Mono City, crews continue to widen the shoulders, lengthen chain-up areas, install lighting, and rehabilitate drainage infrastructure. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. There is one-way traffic control and drivers may encounter 20-minute delays.
BAIT: Night crawlers, Pinched crawlers, Garlic Pbait, rainbow glitter salmon egg Pbait and Mice tails orange/chartreuse head, pink/white and white with pink were the top picks.
LURES: Always try 1/6oz Red/gold and silver/blue Buoyant, silver/blue Kastmaster, black/yellow dots Panther Martin, gold Super Duper 502, "O" gold Mepps and a few bleeding frog Buoyants. Stay on the small size for most lures. One cast/one fish just about every time. Lots of pressure though. Actually extreme pressure, the area is being overrun so get here early for the best bite.
FLY AND BUBBLE: Adams parachute, grey hackle yellow (short), green body mosquito and Griffith's Gnat or any small dark fly. Also try furry black ants near the bushier areas of any of the lakes, it's warm enough for them to become more active. More and more people are switching to this method which is a good idea, less stress on the resource. Consider it. Stop by and learn how. The only drawback is that it works best early and late in the day when the air is cooler.
FLY RODS: Streamers were working along with emergers (pheasant tail, prince nymph or a naked olive elk hair caddis. Hatches have been incredible late afternoon into dinner time when the air temp drops. Try Olive Matuka red throat and black crystal buggers. Woolly's with a pheasant tail or Zug bug dropper also did well. We are heading into our 4th moon of the season, and the fishing is still great! Lakes were stocked again last Tuesday. Get creative and study up on your bugs and their life cycles and see what flies match that particular bug. The assortment is exhausting so get busy and do some reading up on the 5 bugs and their cycles.
NOTE: If the trout bleeds don’t throw it back into the lake, it will die. If you care about the resource please be careful when releasing fish back into the water and IT ATTRACKS BEARS. More bears are NOT what we need.
