Trophy trout are arrived this week.
We had a Mega dome of high pressure (597 dm) currently over NM / AZ and it means business. It will expand over AZ / NV Saturday and bring a long duration heat to the Owens Valley area through the weekend and well into next week. We are looking at temperatures in the range of 103° Sunday in the Owens Valley. Along with this, the moisture from Hurricane Elida will find its way over the “mean flow” of our region. Even though this is not a textbook Monsoonal surge, still it will allow for a chance of convection over higher terrain of Mammoth and Mono County Saturday and Sunday, with a slight chance in the Owens Valley. An Excessive Heat Warning for the Owens Valley will be in effect, Aug 14 @ 11 am — Aug 19 @ 10 pm. A very long period for a warning such as this…DMATTLURES:.
FLY AND BUBBLE: Action has been sporadic over this past week due to the added pressure of the anglers in the County as I mentioned prior, hopefully DFW will get a handle on the hatchery virus that has caused 3.2 million fish euthanization.
FLY RODS: No new news here, same as last week and bring more midges - all stages.
BACKCOUNTRY: Same report as last week, with a couple changes so go smaller darker and stay at 2lb camo leader or very limp leader with your bubble. Some fish are coming up with worms, small lures
NOTE: If the trout bleeds don’t throw it back into the lake, it will die and IT ATTRACKS BEARS. If you care about the resource please be careful when releasing fish back into the water.
Virginia Lakes Resort is located near the top of Conway Summit between Mono Lake and Bridgeport, CA. We have everything you need to enjoy the Eastern Sierra. Check out our WEBSITE.
