We aren't open yet, but 2 people caught some nice trout last Sunday morning.

Weather was spectacular with a light breeze and only a handful of anglers along the southeast corner of Little Virginia. Very warm and the snow is disappearing almost hourly. Lower Creek 139 and upper creek 139 are not open yet, Trumbull Lake has small patches of snow dispersed throughout the heavier treed areas.

Big Virginia saw a few anglers but no report; but the parking lot was mainly skiers as they take their last runs for the year. The snow is great early but softens and rocks are showing more each day making it more of an adrenaline run. Mainly bait and lures did ok from the few I chatted with. Quite a few hikers hitting the trail but nicely dispersed following the current guidelines.

BAIT: Worms, small marshmallows with salmon eggs (Xmas tree), mice tails, powerworms and your favorite bait.

LURES: Stay with standards like red/gold Buoyant, small silver or gold Kastmasters, Silver/red tip Super Duper 501 and small Panther Martin black with yellow dots.

FLY AND BUBBLE: I'll be the first one to report when I can convince him to put a boat on the water, just to exercise my shoulder. Next week it's a fly rod for sure as my sink tips and all sunk.

Couple tubers on the water today and one of them had a 50 fish day, they got away before I could find out what they were using. Darn it all!

FLY RODS: Double nymphs under an 8 foot intermediate sink tip, BH hare's ear behind a Pheasant Tail nymph or reverse it, and bird's nest in olive.

BACKCOUNTRY:

NOTE: If the trout bleeds don’t throw it back into the lake, it will die and IT ATTRACKS BEARS. If you care about the resource please be careful when releasing fish back into the water.
