Chris Leake checked in with us after ice fishing on Caples Lake with his kids on January 2.

Conditions were actually really good, and there were a number of people out there ice fishing. The fishing was good, we all caught fish and some people caught limits. I caught 4 but had a whole lot more bites.

Most fish were 12 to 14 inches, and I think I caught the biggest fish out of anyone that day, a 16 inch rainbow. Saw a couple of big ones cruise by, though.

The ice was 18 inches thick, but not very hard at all, because it was just a few layers of snow that had frozen. So there were two or three small layers in it that were hard, and then a lot of it was soft. Anyone going up there should use caution, especially if the weather has been warm, to make sure the ice is solid. But it was pretty much a perfect day when we went. A couple of photos are attached.
