Fishing was excellent at South Lake this week after Tuesday's monster plant of over 150 Alpers in addition to the weekly allotment of DFG fish. Now that the lake level is up, the inlets are the place to be. The Gilbert Glacier, Long Lake and Treasure Inlets are all holding plenty of fish, and some big ones too. Nightcrawlers and Berkley Power Eggs are the best baits for still fishing and white mini-jigs and Orange powerworms are the best producing artificials. Trolling needlefish, flasher/crawler combo or Thomas Bouyants on lead core at 5 to 7 colors along the west shoreline has also been excellent. Trolling wooly buggers or needlefish on top mid-lake has also been decent. Top fish of the week was a 7lb 4oz rainbow caught on a Red/Gold Thomas Bouyant.

The lake level continues to rise and private boaters can now launch boats of any size.

Also of note, the Bishop Creek Canyon Fall Classic is coming up in September. Throughout the month of September Inyo County & the Bishop Chamber of Commerce will be planting a big load of Alpers trout including several tagged trout worth up to $500. For the fall derby, all canyon waters including Bishop Creek will be planted with tagged fish!!!!
