Well, even though we're in the middle of a snowstorm today, the fishing for the last couple weeks on the EW has been doing just fine. It seems on the warmer days the action is better than on the colder days. The flows are up to 69 cfs as of yesterday afternoon, this is killer. There's still not too much traffic on the river so there's plenty of room for everyone. We've had good reports from the "Miracle Mile" stretch, as well as below the bridge, and on both of the Nevada sections, ( Rosachi and Sceirine). This past week we've started seeing some nicer fish, in the 18 to 23 inch range, and I think as the season progresses we'll start seeing some of those 25" plus bad boys get landed!
As far as fly patterns go, there's quite a few that are working well, including natural San Juan worms, flashback emergers (BWO), micro mayflies, silver streaks, tailwater tinies, micro stones, poxyback stones, rockworm caddis, green serendipities, etc. Keep them small, and keep them deep and you'll be in there! Still haven't heard much about streamers, though I think that would be a good bet in the deeper holes, the dry thing is very hit and miss but sometimes you can get them to come up for a BWO or a small parachute adams.
As the weather gets better and better the pressure down on the EW will increase, so keep in mind both the private and public sections of the Nevada side, the private section is limited to 4 anglers per day over a 2.5 mile stretch, and is only $50 for a ?? day and $80 for a full day per angler. We handle the bookings right here through Ken's (760-932-7707).
