It was a great week of fishing at Convict. A number of 2-3 pounders and full stringers were taken from the lake. The creek even fished better than normal. Don't forget to sign up for the Ambush at the Lake Fall Derby. It would be a real bummer to catch a qualify fish and not be entered.
Catch of the Week: Pete Gomes from Sacramento, CA landed this toad while fishing the South Shore. It was a beautiful 3 pound 11 ounce Rainbow caught with a Nightcrawler.
Other notable catches this week:
David Evans of Beaumont, CA with a stout 3 pound 10 ounce Rainbow. He caught it at the Outlet with Rainbow Powerbait.
Local Dan Galvin from Bishop, CA caught a 3 pound 2 ounce Rainbow. Dan landed this Rainbow at the North Shore with a Silver Kastmaster.
Kimberly Simmons of Redlands, CA hooked into a 3 pound Rainbow using a Nightcrawler. She was fishing at the creek.
A lot of full stringers this week. Here are a few.....
The Shepardson Grandkids had a great day of fishing at the Inlet with Mice Tails.
Matthew Parker from the Outlet with Powerbait. The largest was 2 pounds 12 ounces.
Dave Cavalli filled his full stringer by drowning Nightcrawlers. Limited out with quality fish.
Matt Pyles with a hefty stringer. Matt was using Powerbait and he was fishing the Outlet.
Tactics/Bait: A number of lures and jigs produced this week. Try tossing Tasmanian Devils, Gold or Silver Kastmasters and Mice Tails. The most successful Powerbait colors were Rainbow and Salmon Peach. Nightcrawlers and Salmon Eggs also worked well. The Outlet was the hottest spot this week. Other locations fishing well were the Inlet, South Shore, North Shore, the Handicap Pier and Hangman's Tree.
Here is a list of other baits/lures that can be productive: Panther Martins, Tasmanian Devils, green or brown Marvel Fly Lures, Kastmasters, NeedleFish, Roostertails, and garlic scent on Powerbait.
Here is a list of recommended flies:
Dry Flies: Adams, Female Adams, Cutter's Caddis, Elk Hair Caddis, Stimulators, Black/Red Ants, Sierra Bright Dot, Royal Coachman and Hoppers.
Streamers: Wooly Bugger (black, brown, olive, or green), Mutuka (black, brown, olive, or green), Hornberg, and Muddler Minnows.
Wet Flies(Nymphs): Prince Nymph, Flashback Pheasant Tail, Hare's Ear, Zebra Midge (red and black), Copper John (red and copper) and San Juan Worm (brown or red).
Other Resources: View our Convict Lake Fishing Map and Fishing Rig Suggestion brochures. Both brochures are available in the General Store.
