Outflows have been reduced to near minimum so the lake is really charging up. After what turned out to be a worst case scenario as far as weather in May, delaying both the runoff and the completion of the Hillside dam project, we will finally be able to open the boat landing for rental boats (a month late - ouch!) this coming Thursday.

Depending on how fast the water continues to rise, we should be able to get fish in the water in 7 to 10 days. Southern California Edison will be footing the bill for a huge Alpers stocking as soon as the water is high enough to get fish in at which point it should be "game on" at South.

As for the bite right now...still on the slower side but definitely picking up. Nightcrawers or salmon eggs at Boiler Cove, any of the seasonal inlets, or at the main inlet seems to be the ticket right now. Most of the fish being caught are holdover Rainbows but some decent Browns to 1.5lbs and some small wild Brookies are also in the mix.

It's going to be at least a few weeks before the launch ramp will be open to private boaters.

Flows are back down at ideal levels and the DFG and Alpers stockings really got the bite going this week. Excellent limit style fishing for pan sized rainbows with some Alpers to 3 lbs 10oz mixed in is what we're seeing, especially over the weekend. Salmon eggs and nightcrawlers are the baits of choice but folks tossing spinners or mini-jigs are also doing very well....... Read More
