The typical summer pattern has developed over the past few weeks with many of the fish going deeper so the trolling has really picked up. Folks hauling crawler/flasher combo, 1/4oz Rainbow pattern Kastmasters, Red/Gold or Blue/Silver Thomas Bouyants and Brown Trout Countdown Rapalas have been doing really good at 4 to 6 colors or 20 to 30 feet on the downrigger. Some folks who don't have lead core outfits are using keel sinkers or big egg sinkers and a swivel to get their lures down a bit and they're doing pretty good that way. The area by the dam is still the best bet for shore anglers but the bite is usually only good for a day or two after DFG stockings. Not much going on in Boiler Cove according to reports.

Action behind the island is still very good, especially for the larger model Rainbows, but the numbers of fish hugging tight to the inlets is a little less than it has been in past weeks. The fish seem to be constantly moving in and out of the inlet areas so deep water casts can be very productive. Plastics are still killing it back there, especially the Berkley Atomic Tubes and Gulp. Trout worms in pink or orange. Bait dunkers are still doing well on crawlers, Garlic Powerbait and Salmon Peach Powerbait. Limits are still very common and folks getting the skunk is very rare right now. The trophy rainbows in the 3 to 4.5lb range are coming out left and right with some really nice looking fish, presumably holdovers, in the mix as well. We're planning another Alpers stocking for this coming week so expect the parade of bruisers to continue on through the end of summer.
