Silver Lake Fishing Report

The fishing on Silver Lake hasn’t been to bad as of late, considering that the lake is as full as I have ever seen it and the amount of colder water dumping into the lake itself from the high country snow melt has to be affecting the catch quite a bit.  We did receive two stockings this past week, one from the state and another that we purchased and put in this past Tuesday from Desert Springs Hatchery in Oregon.  We have not only seen these fish coming into the scales but we have also seen some bigger 5 to 6 pounders being drug in as well.  The key to catching lately is more dependent on the depth you are fishing at instead of what you are using.  The bottom water level is still extremely cold from a long winter and the top layer of water is cold from all the snow melt flowing in, which means those fishies are hanging out somewhere in the middle layer that is slightly warmer.  There is no consistent depth, so if you aren’t catching anything with a three foot leader, switch it up and go a one foot, two foot or four foot leader until you find the sweet spot in the water.  Anglers have done well using Baits like Night Crawlers, Berkley Pinch Crawlers, Mice Tails and Power Baits.  Also a lot of Anglers have seen some good results with lures like Super Dupers, Rooster Tails and the always consistent Thomas Buoyant.

Summer is in full swing here at Silver Lake Resort, as kids are out of school and things continue to dry out.  The heavy run off looks to stay pretty consistent for another good four to six weeks but the water is staying in its banks and all looks good as of this week.  Finding fishing spots on the shore is a little tough with the high water but you can still find some good spots to shore up.  Rush Creek is flowing at a high level too, which is a good thing as it will help to clean things up in the creek.  We saw some nice size Rainbows being caught on Rush Creek using some smaller lures, spots are also hard to find on the Creek but there are some spots to be had when you go looking.

As Spring turns to Summer things will continue to be changing and evolving as the high country snow continues to melt away, filling all the lakes and streams in the region, which is a great thing!!!

Happy Fishing and We Will See You at the Lake!!!
